ABOUT THE BOOKWhat happened to Verner’s Torch?
There’s exciting news in Maple City! Old Verner Castle is open to the public once again. While visiting this historic landmark, Tom and Andy learn of a valuable relic, a sword called Verner’s Torch, which is believed to be hidden in one of the castle towers. It would make a great addition to the new Maple Museum. But the boys aren’t the only ones who want to find it. What will happen if Vincent Von Verner finds it first? Will Tom’s classmate Sofia help or hinder their search? And can the boys talk their way out of trouble when the school bully, Jason, turns everyone against them—or will they be banished from Verner Castle forever? The first book in the second series, The Adventures of Tom and Andy: The Mysteries of Verner Castle will excite young readers with a thrilling adventure. |
REVIEWS
We purchased this for our six year old son on recommendations from a friend. He instantly fell in love with this pirate adventure! I read him chapter 1-2 at bed time, then discovered him reading on his own in the morning, he had gotten to chapter 4 by himself! Same happened the following evening. He just couldn't put it down! Now we're done and waiting for the next book in the series to be released! - ART
This is the first book in a series about the adventures of Tom (7 years old, Grade 2) and Andy (one year older). It is a chapter book with an engaging and fast-moving plot. The action, characters, images and the vocabulary are age appropriate. The cliff-hanger structure of each chapter, large text and colorful illustrations, make it suitable for independent or bedtime reading. The illustrations will delight young readers and often contain details that will amuse adults. I bought the soft cover version. I like the format and, with10 chapters, many illustrations, and 67 pages, I think it represents good value. - GT
My grandsons ( 6 & 7 yrs) loved this book. Don't tell anyone but so did I. Of course, I had to read it myself & couldn't put it down until I finished. I've ordered book 2 in the series & we can't wait to continue the adventures of Tom & Andy. - LO
Great story and illustrations. I picked up this book for my daughter (6) and she was very engaged in the story and artwork. She and I took turns reading the story and she didn’t want to put the book away until we were finished. Looking forward to book 2! - HG
Gave this as a birthday gift to our friend's 8 year old son. It was one of his favourite gifts and he loves reading it before bedtime. He told me that he's going to go on adventure like Tom and Andy one day. He can't wait to read the rest of the series. A great summer read! - PZ
